Over the weekend, Team Casarez students competed in the Newbreed Raleigh tournament and achieved outstanding results. In this competition, several schools from around the state travel to compete.
Of all the teams, Team Casarez earned 2nd place overall in the Adult Academy standings. The standings for the team points are calculated by the amount of medals that are earned, with gold medals counting for the most points. Our team earned 14 gold medals total. 7 of those counted toward the Adult Team competition, and the other 7 were earned by our youth who competed.
We had 13 students compete overall, 5 youth and 8 adults.
Our young competitors stole the show early in the morning by dominating their divisions.
James, Nicolas, and Khris are three of our boys who have been recently training in the adult’s class to push their training. All three of them won gold in their divisions. Khris won double gold, Gi and No Gi, and it was his first time competing. Nicolas submitted his first three opponents in less than a couple seconds each via Triangle, Armbar, and Americana.
Trinity is also one of our youth competitors who trains in the adult classes, and she is an active competitor. She won two gold and one silver medal. Her execution of technique and relentless determination on the mats earned her well-deserved victories in all the divisions she competed.
In the adult brackets, Patricia and Noah both took double gold. Patricia fought in her weight class, and also went 2 weight classes up to ensure more matches. She won every match, and submitted her opponent in the finals by Triangle. Noah won his Gi and No Gi divisions, and submitted his opponents by RNC and Armbars. David and Dane also represented the school in the adult division, and each of them earned gold in their divisions. Their precise execution of techniques and relentless energy on the mats earned them a spot at the top of the podium.
As well as the accomplishments on the mats, the team also showed leadership, encouragement, and support to one another off the mats. We had several teammates come out to the tournament just to support and help coach. This is a priority for us as a school, as it creates a positive and uplifting environment that undoubtedly contributed to the team’s overall success.
Overall, the Jiu Jitsu team at Team Casarez should be proud of their hardwork and commitment displayed at the Newbreed Raleigh competition. This is the team’s 3rd time the team has placed placed in the top 3 Adult Academy standings. Team Casarez also earned 2nd place in October, and won 1st place in December.
Congratulations to all of the athletes and coaches involved in this accomplishment’s at this weekend’s tournament!
We look forward to more competitions in the future.
