Jiu Jitsu is a self-defense system that focuses on grappling and ground fighting. It is designed specifically to help a smaller individual overcome a larger attacker, so it is a great self-defense system to learn, especially for women and children.
Unlike other martial arts, there is no striking in Jiu Jitsu. Jiu Jitsu focuses primarily on control of the opponent without hurting them. Since most self-defense situations end up on the ground, it is essential to become a master of these scenarios.
July 31 – August 4.
9am – 3pm.
Daily schedule is included below.
Camp is open to boys and girls ages 4-12.
Campers will be split up into teams according to size at the beginning of camp to ensure safety when training.
Please have your child pack 2 snacks, lunch, and a water bottle.
Your child will need a Gi (pronounced Gee) for camp. We do offer Gis for sale at the school, and we will rent Gis to campers for the week for $50. Please indicate on your registration form if you will need to rent a Gi.
A children’s Jiu Jitsu program can provide a perfect outlet for rough and tumble play, which is vital for healthy childhood development. Through Jiu Jitsu, children can learn to regulate their emotions and physical actions, interact positively with others, and build physical and social confidence.
A study published in the Journal of Family Psychology found that rough-and-tumble play (grappling/wrestling) among children is associated with better emotional regulation and social competence.
Jiu Jitsu requires children to be in close-contact with peers, and gain confidence in this situation. If ever they were to end up in this situation outside of training, they would feel composed, confident, and ready to defend themselves. If they never grapple, and they find themselves in a self-defense situation from another kid, they may feel overwhelmed, confused, and helpless.
Jiu Jitsu is very safe for kids. We have a systematic and proven curriculum that teaches kids how to train Jiu Jitsu safely. While it does involve close-quarter contact, Jiu Jitsu does not include striking of any kind. It is 100% grappling and control focused. Submissions are applied until the opponent taps. For kids, we tap for them. Our coaches are trained and experienced in coaching kids.
Yes. We can offer extended care until 6pm. Your child will be allowed to participate in our afternoon, regularly scheduled, kids’ classes which go until 6pm. This option is available for an additional $100.
Our summer camp is designed to help your child grow in confidence and character through Jiu Jitsu, while making friends and having fun along the way!
